This week, despite many devotees being away on Spiritual Retreat, we will still have a nice programme and will be discussing the misaculous story of the boy Dhruva maharaj. This is from the Fourth Canto of the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the ripened fruit of all Vedic scriptures, and recounts the tale of a five year old boy, disgruntled about his position in his family, retreats to the forest to find God, Krishna, with the determination of a great sage.
'As stated in Bhagavad-gītā (6.22), yam labdhvā cāparam lābham manyate nādhikam tatah: if one can attain the favor of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he has nothing to aspire for, nor does he desire any other gain. When Dhruva Mahārāja became perfect by austerity and saw the Supreme Personality of Godhead face to face, he was offered any kind of benediction he wanted. However, Dhruva replied that he did not want anything, for he was perfectly satisfied with the benediction of seeing the Lord.'
(SB Canto 5 - purport)
"I was undergoing such severe penances simply for my father's kingdom and land, but now I have seen You. Even the great sages and saints cannot see You. What is my profit? I left my home to find merely some scraps of glass and rubbish, and instead I have found a very valuable diamond. Now I am satisfied. I have no need to ask anything of You."
(Srila Prabhupada - 'On the way to Krishna')
Please join us in discussing this important pastime of one of the great devotees of Krishna and the valuable lessons leanred from him. As usual we will also have Kirtans (chanting with musical instruments) and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.
We look forward to seeing you there!
