This Friday, we will focusing on the Bhagavad-gita - As it is, and the story (lila) as to how Srila Prabhupada translated and commented on this great work, which spanned decades.

The Bhagavad-gita was so important to Srila Prabhupada, he saw it as the perfect book to convey Krsna consciousness, as it consists of the Lord's own words and His interactions with His loving devotee.

"Out of many standard and authoritative revealed scriptures, the Bhagavad-gita is the best. One will find in the Bhagavad-gita all that is contained in other scriptures, but the reader will also find things which are not to be found elsewhere. That is the specific standard of the Gita." (Srila Prabhupada)

In 1939, just seven years after Prabhupada was initiated by his spiritual master, he wrote a lengthy introduction to the book in English, presaging his full translation and commentary, which appeared soon after he began his mission in the West. When Prabhupada arrived in New York in 1965, he gave priority to his work on the Gita, as in India he had already completed a translation, spanning well over a thousand pages, but it was stolen...

This week, local devotee, His Grace Rupa Goswami das prabhu will lead a reading as to how this intriguing history unfolded and how this translation with true emphasis on Bhakti Yoga, has impacted the world ever since.

As usual we will have Kirtans (chanting with musical instruments) and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast. We look forward to seeing you there!
