With deep sadness, we lost a wonderful member of our Brighton Community recently - Her Grace Karunamayi devi dasi (famously for always being dressed in her distinctive Pink Saris).

This Friday, we will honour her departure with a special Kirtan and Bhajan (devotional song) evening.

We will songs glorifying special devotees such as her and chant in Kirtan, each of us wearing some pink colour in her memory.

Her Grace has been attending our Friday programmes for many years. Being mostly resident in her beloved Mayapur, West Bengal - India, Karunamayi also stayed for long periods of the year in Hove visiting and caring for her elderly parents and hence became part of our Yatra too.

She lived a very simple life and being a fluent Bengali speaker, Karunamyi spent decades serving in Bengal and Bangladesh, sharing Krishna Consciousnes to thousands, in small villages all over the region. She was a respected teacher at the Temple and well known for her deep knowledge of Bhakti texts and travelled extensively. She also spent long periods in Europe, the Netherlands and Radhadesh Belgium, throughout her devotional life, as well as rural Bengal.

Some of us were fortunate to spend time with her in India recently and got to know her more deeply and appreciate more her kind and compassionate nature. We said our goodbyes, as she was staying on for another month before coming back to Hove to again see her elderly parents. Shortly after we had returned home we recieved the message she had suffered a stroke and was in a coma in Kolkata. She was showing signs of recovery and was moved back to Mayapur. Shortly after, however, by the blessings of her beloved Radha Madhava, she passed away in her beloved Sri Dham Mayapur, the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Golden Avatar of Krishna. She had achieved perfection as was very blessed to depart this world in such an auspicious place. She will be dearly missed.

Please join us to celebrate this bitter sweet occasion, try and wear a flash of pink, in her memory if you can and take part in the joyous Kirtan.

As usual we will finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.

We look forward to seeing you there!
