Friday 17th November - Govardhan Puja

As the sacred month of Kartika (October – November) continues, this Friday we will observe Govardhana Puja, commemorating the divine pastime of Lord Sri Krishna lifting the Govardhana Hill to shield the cherished residents of Vrindavana from the fierce wrath of Indra, the king of the demigods

.

Witnessing the preparations for Indra-yajna (sacrifice), the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna lovingly advised the residents to redirect their worship towards Govardhana Hill, forsaking the traditional worship of Indra. In response, Indra, fueled by anger, unleashed a torrential rainfall upon Vrindavana. To protect the inhabitants, Krishna effortlessly lifted the Govardhana Hill with His little finger, providing refuge for all.

This profound episode, known as Govardhana Lila, teaches us that a devotee, surrendered to the Supreme Lord and immersed in devotional service, is liberated from all obligations and doesn't need to seek material favors from demigods. Indra, recognizing his transgression, humbly sought forgiveness from Krishna. This timeless tale of devotion and divine protection is vividly narrated in the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam and summarised in 'Srila Prabhupada's summary work known as 'Krishna Book', from which we will read from on Friday.

Join us this Friday in Brighton as we come together to celebrate the wisdom and transcendental joy of Govardhana Puja during our Hare Krishna Fridays program where there will be a special offering ('Puja'), Kirtans (chanting with musical instruments) -the most effective method of self-realisation for this age- and finish with a Veggie/Vegan Spiritual Feast.

We look forward to seeing you there!
